Gunther is President-Elect of the NCWA Board and will chair the Nominating Committee for the board in 2025. As President-Elect, he is an Officer of NCWA and a member of the Board's Executive Committee. He is a biotech executive and entrepreneur and was born and educated in Austria, where he pursued graduate studies in biochemistry, genetics and virology, and earned a masters degree and a doctorate from the University of Vienna, Austria. Postdoctoral studies brought him to the United States in 1986. Gunther started his industry career in 1988 at Biogen, a biotechnology company in Cambridge MA, where he held senior positions in R&D, sales and marketing and in corporate administration. He left Biogen in 2011 and started Biometheus, a company that specialized in precision medicine. He is a member of the Trustee Advisory Board, the Research Oversight Committee and the Harvard RNA Initiative Advisory Board at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, a Harvard Medical School teaching hospital in Boston. He has held a number of non-profit leadership positions in Naples, including serving six years on the NCWA Board of Directors, leaving as Vice President of Operations and Webmaster to become president-elect of Greater Naples Leadership. After his time with Greater Naples Leadership, he returned to the NCWA Board for a term beginning in the 2025-26 year. He and his wife, Maria, have two adult children who live in Colorado. Maria and Gunther divide their time between Naples, Boston and Boulder, Colorado, where their daughter and grandson live. |
