Naples Council on World Affairs

Application to Serve on the Board of Directors

The Board of Directors of NCWA appreciates your interest in joining us. We are now accepting applications from members who would like to join the Board of Directors for the 2024-2025 season. The deadline for us to receive your application is Wednesday, January 10, 2024.

You will be pleased to learn that there are a wide variety of volunteer opportunities with NCWA, including assisting in the presentation of lectures and other major events, leading Great Decisions discussion groups, facilitating learning opportunities for high school and middle school students, selecting summer study applicants from area high schools, administering many functions for the Model United Nations competition at Florida Gulf Coast University, helping program "alumni" explore careers in international affairs and diplomacy, and many more.

NCWA's Board members are deeply and personally involved in their favorite programs in a "hands on" fashion. While some nonprofit organizations have Boards that operate mainly at a policy level, this is a "working board" that operates without a paid staff. We place our resources in our program content.

Board members are expected to:

  • attend all Board meetings (generally the third Thursday of the months October through April, available in person or via Zoom),
  • serve on one or more committees,
  • become members of the President’s Club and
  • to share responsibility for the wellbeing and operation of the Council in an environment that relies on collegial teamwork

Please answer the four questions below and submit your application to the chair of the Nominating Committee (address noted below). Alternatively, you may download the PDF form (which requests the same information; see instructions below).

The deadline for submission will be announced in a communication to the membership. Candidates may be scheduled for interviews with the Nominating Committee.

Your submission should include the following:

A. Name, date and how to contact you (email and phone)

B. Detailed answers to these four questions:

1. Why are you interested in serving on the NCWA Board?

2. What experience have you had that would benefit NCWA? Have you participated in any NCWA programs or activities prior to your application? If so, please describe your involvement.

3. Are there specific areas of NCWA’s work in which you would like to be involved? If so, please explain.

4. Is there other relevant information that you would like the Nominating Committee to know about you? If so, please explain:

C. Your resume or bio

Please create your own Word document, PDF or email with the above required information (A through C) or access a fillable application form by clicking on the link below.
