Gerry Melnick

Born and raised in New Jersey, Gerry had dual careers, one in education and a second in the business world. After graduation from Monmouth College he did his graduate work at Columbia University and the New School for Social Research. His degrees were in Political Science with a concentration in International Law and Constitutional Law. While attending graduate schools he taught high school and retired from one of the New Jersey State universities as Director of the Holocaust Resource Center teaching graduate courses in Holocaust and Genocide studies, as well as contributing to programs with the university’s Human Rights Institute. Gerry also served as a consultant to the New Jersey Department of Education. He has received academic fellowships for study in the Middle East and Europe.

In business Gerry was President of New Jersey Foam Corporation, a fabricator and distributor of cellular materials, both open and closed cell, serving the domestic and industrial markets. Beginning as a small start up, the business became a successful competitor in its field. He sold that business in 2003 and he and his wife Helene, an artist and opera lover, bought a home in Naples.

Gerry has served on the Board of Directors in his community, has been a participant in Great Decisions and a leader of the group for the past four years. He served as chair of the Model UN Position Paper Committee for the past three years.
