Challenges to American’s Security-After Afghanistan and Iraq
General Barry McCaffrey will address the Naples Council on World Affairs on Monday, February 4th, at St. John the Evangelist’s Kiney Hall, 625 111th Avenue, North Naples, at 3:45 and 7:30 pm.
“What are the principal security challenges we will face as our Armed Forces complete their final withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2014?’” General McCaffrey will also examine the future potential security threats in domestic and international communities. As we possibly face “sequestration”, will a diminished defense budget make us more vulnerable?
General Barry McCaffrey
The youngest General in the Army at the time of his retirement, his last command was as Commandant of SOUTHCOM, the unified command responsible for the US military activities in Central and South America. He has been awarded the Distinguished Service Cross twice, the Purple Heart three times, and the Silver Star twice all during his time in Vietnam. He was also awarded the Distinguished Service Medal during Operation Desert Storm, truly an outstanding military career.
A graduate of West Point he also earned his M.A. in Civil Government from American University. His postgraduate military studies at the National Defense University, the Army War College and the Defense Language Institute’s program in Vietnamese round out his many educational achievements.
