China’s Rise Admidst Rising Challenges
Implications for the U.S. and U.S.-China Relations
Jamie P. Horsley, Deputy Director of the China Law Center at Yale Law School will address the Naples Council on Monday, March 26th, at 3:45 and 7:30 pm at St. John the Evangelist’s Kiney Hall, 625 111th Avenue, Naples.
The world stands in awe and some consternation at China’s emergence as a modern economic powerhouse. Yet her leaders demur, pointing to myriad domestic economic and social challenges they claim constrain their policy choices and justify continued one party rule to maintain social stability. What are the prospects for political reform as a new leadership comes to power in late 2012 in the midst of a worldwide economic crisis that is also having an impact on the Chinese economy? What is really going on in China today and how should the U.S. interact with the People’s Republic?
Jamie Horsley
Jamie Horsley is also Senior Research Scholar and Lecturer in Law at Yale University. She has a B.A. from Stanford, an M.A. (Chinese Studies) from the University of Michigan, a J.D. from Harvard, and a Dipl. in Chinese Law from the University of East Asia
