st
,2013, at St. John the Evangelist’s Kiney Hall, 625 111

“We are entering an unprecedented period of water stress globally. As the human population expands toward 8 billion, competition for water is intensifying-between nations, within nations, and between people and Nature. How we as a society respond to this dilemma will have serious implications for food security, the health of the aquatic environment, and social and political stability.”
Sandra Postel is founder and Director of the Global Water Policy Project, and lectures, writes and consults on international water issues. In 2010 she was appointed Freshwater Fellow of the National Geographic Society and serves as lead water expert for the Society’s freshwater initiative. She has authored several acclaimed books, including the award-winning “Last Oasis” which has been translated into eight languages. She also served as Director of the Center for the Environment at Mt. Holyoke College, has appeared on the BBC’s “Planet Earth” and in Leonard DiCaprio’s “The 11
th
Hour”. She has been named a Pew Scholar in Conservation and the Environment, as well as one of the “Scientific American 50” for her contributions to water policy.
