Gunther Winkler

Gunther is a biotech executive and entrepreneur. He was born and educated in Austria, where he pursued graduate studies in biochemistry, genetics and virology, and earned a masters degree and a doctorate from the University of Vienna, Austria. Postdoctoral studies brought him to the United States in 1986.

Gunther started his industry career in 1988 at Biogen, a biotechnology company in Cambridge MA, where he held senior positions in R&D, sales and marketing and in corporate administration. He left Biogen in 2011 and started Biometheus, a company that specialized in precision medicine.

He is a member of the Trustee Advisory Board, the Research Oversight Committee and the Harvard RNA Initiative Advisory Board at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, a Harvard Medical School teaching hospital in Boston. He has held a number of non-profit leadership positions in Naples, including being president-elect of Greater Naples Leadership in 2022-23.

He and his wife, Maria, have two adult children. Maria and Gunther divide their time between Naples and Boston. He has served NCWA as Vice President of Operations and is Webmaster and chairs the Nominating Committee for the Board of Directors.
