Middle School Competition
On January 29th, 189 students from 17 Collier County schools gathered at the Community School of Naples and participated in the Naples Council on World Affairs School Outreach 5th Annual Middle School Academic World Quest. Viewed by over 250 cheering parents, siblings, and friends, the 100 question competition covered 10 different categories including World Leaders, Flags of Countries, Current International Events, Monuments and Landmarks, World War II Leaders and Important Events, National Capitals, European Union, Geographic Landforms, South Asia, and Major Waterways.
In a very close finish, the winner, for the second year in a row, was North Naples A team with Danny Gursoy, Quinn Kofler, Alexander Stetson, and Joey Wilton. In second place by one point was Oakridge B team with Harry Zafiris, Karina Tamayo, Riley Mitchell, and Mark Torres. Tied for third was Pine Ridge A team with Harrison Vollmer, Beckett Haglund, Isabel Gareau, Ethan Natvig, and Mitchel Lindheim and Gulfview A team with Connor Kipp, Daniel Zamora, Austin Kalmans, and Marion Truax. In fifth place by 1 point was North Naples D team with Robert Beatty, Tomas Justiz, Will McCann, and Jared Kelley.
Medals for Academic Excellence and Book Store Gift Certificates were presented to the members of the 5 teams. Certificates of Participation were presented to all 189 students. North Naples retained the NCWA Middle School Academic World Quest Trophy for another year.

High School Competition
The 2011 high school AWQ competition was held Feb 26th at Community School of Naples. Ten schools participated and Gulf Coast High School won for the 5th consecutive year! The top three teams were awarded gift certificates and medals for academic excellence. The first placed team was also awarded an all expense paid trip to Washington DC to compete against 50-60 other counsels around the U.S.A.
The 2012 H.S. AWQ will be held on Feb 25th at Community School of Naples from 9AM to Noon.
