Dr. Peter Singer will arrive with the answer to those very questions on Monday, April 4th, at St’ John the Evangelist’s Kiney Hall, 625 111th Avenue, at 3:45 and 7:30 pm.
What happens when science fiction becomes battlefield reality? An amazing revolution is taking place on the battlefield, starting to change not just how wars are fought, but also the politics, economics, laws, and ethics that surround war itself. This upheaval is already afoot -- remote-controlled drones take out terrorists in Afghanistan, while the number of unmanned systems on the ground has gone from zero to 12,000 over the last five years. But it is only the start. What are the political, military, legal, and moral questions that we have to figure out, as we begin to hand over more and more of war fighting to our machines?
Dr. Singer is the Director of the 21st Century Defense Initiative and Senior Fellow at the Brookings Institution. He was named one of the 100 Top Global Thinkers of 2009 by Foreign Policy Magazine. He is a B.A. graduate of Princeton University and received his PhD from Harvard University.
