Michael E. O’Hanlon, newly back from Afghanistan, has kindly stepped in to replace Sarah Chayes who was asked to return to that country and work with General Petraeus. He will address the Naples Council on World Affairs on Monday, November 15th, at St. John the Evangelist’s Kiney Hall, 625 111th Avenue, at 3:45 and 7:30 pm.
Author, with Hasssina Sherjan, of “Toughing It Out in Afghanistan”, Mr. O’Hanlon has written “a superb analysis of the current strategy in Afghanistan, for those who want a clear understanding of the situation, the strategy, and the path ahead in this crucial conflict”. He believes that by 2012 there is a chance that we can turn over the main effort to the Afghans themselves.
But what of the insinuations in the latest Bob Woodward book? What is the Obama administration’s Afghan policy? And what about those “transparent” bags of cash from Iran? Like it or not, Karzai is in charge!
Michael O’Hanlon specializes in national security and defense policy issues, at the Brookings Institution, and is senior author of the “Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan Index” projects. He recently served on the Secretary of State’s International Security Advisory Board.
