America's Global Challenges 2015

Ambassador Nicholas Burns will address the Naples Council on World Affairs on Monday, March 9th at St. John the Evangelist’s Kiney Hall, 625 111th Avenue No. in North Naples at 3:45 and 7:30 pm.

Nicholas Burns, Harvard Professor, columnist and former American Diplomat believes the United States is facing the most complex set of global challenges in memory.  He will speak about how the U.S. should respond to Putin's aggression in Europe, the burning Middle East, the rise of China, Climate Change and why President Obama and the Congressional leadership should chart a strong international leadership course for our country.  In addition to analyzing the threats we face, he will explain why there are many reasons that we can also be hopeful about the global future.

Ambassador Burns served in the U.S. Government for twenty seven years.  As a career Foreign Service Officer, he was Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs from 2005 to 2008; the State Department’s third-ranking official when he led negotiations on the U.S.–India Civil Nuclear Agreement; a long-term military assistance agreement with Israel; and was the lead U.S. negotiator on Iran’s nuclear program. He was U.S. Ambassador to NATO (2001–2005) and Ambassador to Greece (1997–2001). He received his B.A. in History from Boston College and his M.A. in International Relations from Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies.
