Having received B.A. and M.B.A. degrees from the University of Michigan, Tom worked in the U.S. Navy Intelligence Office for three years and then obtained his Ph.D. After teaching positions at both the University of California and Cornell, he has been a Full Professor at Cornell from 1968, all but nine of those years as the Ann Whitney Olin Professor of Accounting, until recently. He is active in Great Decisions.
